From hype to burnout

Look, I think we’re all feelin’ the tension.

AI coders getting better by the day, tools improvement skyrocketing, and resources abounding so much you can physically sense the overload. (Heck at least I can!)

Add to that, Mark Zuckerberg telling us not just junior devs but mid-level engineers are all getting replaced by AI.

Now is a good time to step back

For what *exactly* is Burnout and how to fix it?

Burnout is a work-related syndrome. A state of profound depletion characterized by three intertwined symptoms.

Emotional exhaustion.

Feeling utterly drained, overwhelmed, and emotionally spent.

Depersonalization.

Negative, detached, and even cynical attitude towards your work, your colleagues, and the very purpose of your efforts.

Inefficacy.

You feel incompetent, unproductive, and question your abilities, even when you’re putting in the effort.

Burnout is *not* inevitable.

Both individuals and organizations can take proactive steps to prevent and mitigate it.

But, it’s a combined effort (see the table below).

And it starts with you. You, first, need to say to yourself, my health matters. I matter.

Projects pass, partners remain.

AI to the rescue?

AI-powered coding assistants can increase productivity, sure.

But what if your friendly neighborhood IDE was built, ground-up for your wellbeing? (Like we already have wellbeing browsers?)

That’s something I would love to see!
